It would appear a significant plunge protection has been executed, I have never in my limited years seen a move like that ! I recall Christmas Eve a few years ago some ugly numbers but that made the open today look like child’s play…. Will be interesting to see if its buy me to hammer or drift back down and retest….surely that was far too much too soon…

You mention he’s trying o increase it by 35%. over what time span ? since last year, since 2, 3 or 5 years ago etc ?
I don’t know how the commercial ombudsman/arbitration works for commercial rentals but I have historically challenged UK residential landlords when their increases have been unreasonable but I am not sure if commercial rent is covered by the same rules, an intial google suggests not, all depends what sort of lease you have.
How much notice has he given you and when does he want to increase the rent from ?
Are there any vacant shops in the area ? I know with arbitration of residential leases they look at the rates of surrounding properties and can prevent a landlord from increasing as much as they want, but they can also increase it if the rent is too low.

I assume he has advised your formally and in accordance with the terms of the lease, formally would be a letter etc etc. Also does he fulfil all of his requirements as the commercial landlord ? you’re a pretty laid back guy like myself but when needs be holding people to the very letter of their lease can be a tool which makes them reconsider their increases, e.g. if he puts it up 35% and you insist on repairs each month that cost more than this increase etc etc…. like insitising on proper fire protection, sprinkler systems, alarms, plibming problems, electrical problems, gas certificates, etc etc you get the picture.
You said he swears a lot, probably wont carry any weight, but suggests he hasn’t advised you in a written formal manner In accordance with your lease/agreement, until he does then he hasn’t and cant expect more imho.
I doesn’t cost to go to arbitration in residential land, so perhaps it doesn’t in commercial land, worth a shot !?
I am playing this through a longer game vehicle at present (pension) because these whips are massive, I was amazed at the friday drop to the ES support levels when I looked at the end of the day, but then even more amazed (or maybe it was predictable) at the “Buy Em” off that support level yesterday, I guess the plunge protection team don’t want that support to go, as it would seem to suggest a very rapid -100 ES if it did go with that potential double top pattern….. it is like an index on speed of late, not sure where its going but wherever it goes, does it very fast and then changing its mind – ha ha It must be triggering stops all over the place ! the amount of stops below the ES support must be worth hitting for a laugh next and then running up again lol
My 10600 hort is only 1400 points out, I’d say that’s pretty close as a percentage, lol…. Thank goodness not a spread, that might of required a bit of margin ha ha ….
