However this trump is a complete and utter nutter. This is what he said about a Sikh. I am furious about this. He called a turban a hat? What a bludy plank. Dangerous guy
A protester (who was also a turbaned Sikh) who displayed a “Stop Hate” banner at a Donald Trump rally in Muscatine, Iowa, was escorted out by security. No surprises there – it could have happened at any rally.
Once the man wearing the turban and another protester were escorted out by security, the audience erupted with loud applause, cheers and chants of ‘USA! USA! USA!’
Here’s the concerning part. When referring to the man wearing the turban, Tump said: ‘He wasn’t wearing one of those hats, was he? Was he wearing one of those things? And he never will, and that’s OK because we got to do something folks because it’s not working.’
The scene is frightening. It is also symbolic: the boundaries of Trump’s America are defined by hate and xenophobia.
I suspect that the assumption of Trump, or at least of many of those attending the rally, was that the man was Muslim. But that’s irrelevant. The logic of hate that sees turbans, beards, and brown skin as perpetually foreign and potentially terrorist, is offensive on every level – and we must be careful not to imply that racism against a Muslim is somehow more acceptable than racism against a Sikh.Muslim or Sikh, or any other religion, there is definitely an education piece needed: we need to make sure that there is more understanding and interaction between different religions and cultures. And, fundamentally, we need to make it clear that Muslims and terrorists are very, very different things.
